Once upon a time into the abyss of Bailadila, came upon a group of hunters eyeing every nook and corner. With harpoons in their hands, they were ready to shoot down even a bird that caught their sight. Their folks have been starving. There hadn't been anything to hunt down in the wood for a week, and they couldn't return empty-handed that day too.
Sun was at the head,
And no animal lay dead.
But just before
Tears and sweat kissed their feet,
Out of the rustling bush,
Showed up a Hiran goldy as a treat.
They hurried behind mammoth gravel and witnessed the angelic Deer saunter out.
Eyes as dripped in a million black jets,
Silhouetted by the enormity of lashes,
Braided out of rich silk by the Seraphim.
With a thousand splendid Sapphires Studded on its satin-smooth hair,
And the ivory spots
Shimmering on its skin,
Elegant like a masterpiece by a Gadhwa.
It indeed was the paradise in itself.
They were smitten by the Deer's charming flanks and a fine trickle of drool, leaked from the corner of their mouths. One said out in hush, "Gear up, men. We got to hunt it down & dinner on its succulent meat tonight."
But just as they were to grasp their weapons, they felt heavier like nothing before. They were all astonished while a voice came up, "Quick, let us go after it then. It's our only resort now." Motivated, they divided into groups of four. One drove straight at it, while the others attacked from the sides.
But something bizarre occurred just then. With every leap, the Deer went away a mile in the blink of an eye.
It showed around in the meadow,
Like a lad sprinkling a thousand
Amethysts off its lithe self,
The flicker of which could turn you blind.
This enthralled their eyes but that didn't curtail their feet from running. Rather all of them spread out and ran towards it. But every time each one leapt at it, it appeared another mile away in a jiffy. After spending three whole hours chasing, it was still not hunted down.
The Sun was just about to set when with their melancholic selves, they returned. Every soul was remorseful to have to return empty-handed, when suddenly from the forefront, came the Deer ambling towards them.
Can nature satisfy everyone's greed?
Sneering a tad bit, it spoke human words-
Having the flesh of every one of my friends'
You want me now?
Well well
I am as Mahanadi is
Unattainable.
But I am privy to your hardship
And I am here just for that.
Saying this it drove to the way of Indravati. The hunters were too flabbergasted to comprehend even a word. They just bluntly pursued the Heeran.
Traversing overgrown tropical groves, they were at the banks of Indravati Nadi. "It's on the surge, how shall we cross it without a dinghy?"
The Heeren replied, "Ride me across the brook."
Saying this it plunged into the waters and as it showed up, to everyone's awe, its flanks took the shape of a raft and head at the bow, prepared for a sail.
Understanding the divine miracle unfolding, they hailed out of honour. Unanimously rowing with the oars(product is its depiction), they were taken aback to witness a narrow passage on the other side and a brilliant sheen from something caught their eyes from the other end of the tunnel as though Surya himself was laying there.
Manoeuvring through it, what unfolded in the vast expanse marvelled every eye:
Ration from a kings' livestock,
Shimmering like a thousand emeralds.
Baskets full of ripe fruits and vegetables,
Barrels of Mahua, broth, honey and milk,
Rich cache of rice, meat, wheat & lentils.
Nourishments for a million mouths
To serve centuries;
And
The glitter of which seduced even Kuber.
Teary-eyed, as they turned back to where the Hareena stood, to everyone's surprise, they couldn't locate anyone there. They turned back and cheered out in glee.
