Festival of Lights is a festival of happiness & prosperity. It is during this time of the year that the crops are harvested & reaped, calling for everyone to joyously celebrate Navakhai (festival to welcome the new rice of the season). Therefore, this brings in a khushiyon ki bahaar(wave of happiness) into their spirits. Also, in the depth of the Amavas Raat, Lord Shiva shrouded in the yellow of Diyas, had brought his Baaraat, to marry Parvati, where everyone(including animals) had accompanied him on his way, singing, swinging & swaying out of joy.
